Lid Lad - Thermally Regulated Spill Proof Coffee Lid

Course: ME 153 - Introduction to Mechanical Engineering Design

For my junior design project, my team designed a thermo-regulated, spill-proof coffee lid that won the most marketable design award.

About the Project:

ME 153 is a course focused on product design process. I collaborated in a team of six mechanical engineers to conceptualize, manufacture, and program a smart lid. A problem we each had faced personally as students was burning our tongues on hot coffee in addition to spilling coffee in crowded lecture halls as a result of trying to cool the coffee. We designed a lid to automate this process of cooling a hot beverage to a desired drinking temperature (set by the user), and designed the lid to be spill-proof using an internal accelerometer. I lead the programming of the initial code logic for the temperature threshold in Arduino. Our final Solidworks model and poster is shown below.
